Introduction
Jolly Babies the first stream of the Music with Mummy programme and is for babies from birth to around 18 months. Classes are about having fun, bonding and learning through music – regardless of ability – whilst making friends. Sessions are weekly and last around 30 minutes. Groups are small and friendly to create an informal and welcoming atmosphere, to enable individual attention and to make it suitable for even very young babies.
Ideal first musical experience
Jolly Babies is the ideal first musical experience. The activities and music have been designed for babies, including very young babies. It is never too soon to play music and sing to your baby and so babies are welcome at classes at whatever age you decide to come to a taster session.
Many babies come from 4-5 weeks. Parents enjoy getting out with their baby, meeting other parents and starting to enjoy music and singing together. Babies benefit from close contact with a parent and from hearing the sound of their voice. Even very young babies enjoy the stimulation from hearing new sounds watching other people – especially other babies.
Starting Singing
It is well known that babies enjoy music and singing. Since the beginning of time people from different cultures have sung to and rocked their babies. A great deal of research has been carried out to demonstrate the significant developmental and emotional benefits of music for babies.
Although we are aware of the benefits get started with singing can be difficult. For many of us it has been a long time since we have sung nursery Rhymes and we have forgotten the words or we may not feel comfortable about singing.
Jolly Babies classes are an ideal way to start to remember traditional songs and learn new songs too. By singing with other parents and babies you can observe the enjoyment that takes place, gain confidence and pick up ideas for activities to do at home.
